Who doesn't love a good DIY project? Whether it's your young kids making sandcastles at the beach this summer or building a coffee table from scratch,
we all love making things work with our own two hands. There is a natural satisfaction that comes along with the completion of a long time project.
DIYs can be found all over on sites such as Pinterest or Youtube. On the rise currently is DIY Orthodontics, with various sites encouraging the public
to align their teeth from the comfort of their own home.
Although everyone loves a nice, straight smile, there are dangers that come along with trying to complete your own orthodontics treatment at home.
Rushed orthodontics or unsupervised at-home treatment can lead to irreparable damage of one's teeth. Nerves in a person's tooth, roots, or even crowns
can be exposed to unnecessary trauma, which can cause pain in the long run. It is easier to avoid a problem altogether than attempt to straighten your
teeth and end up having to see various professionals to repair a mistake you made.
“The American Association of Orthodontists is urging consumers to beware of Internet videos and websites which
encourage people to try and straighten their own teeth. Moving teeth is a medical procedure and needs personal supervision by an orthodontist. Please
be wary of any suggestions to move teeth with rubber bands, dental floss, or other objects ordered on the Internet.”
Ever heard the saying "you get what you pay for"? There is some truth to the line. At- home orthodontics may be convenient to your busy schedule, gas
tank, or even your wallet; HOWEVER, the damage you may be causing your teeth would not be worth the few dollars you are attempting to save. It is strongly
recommended to have a certified orthodontist examine your teeth and offer the best treatment plan for your personal case.
